I really loved this movie so I was looking for another movie that has the same kind of setting, which is the PRESENT. And it had very simple aspects nothing much too supernatural.

So anyone know anymore movies?

Cool... I will watch the anime later... I like Howl's Moving Castle... though like smoosh had said, it's more to fantasy~

okay, I'll check this howl's moving castle. But I would like something more realistic, like in the real world, and at the present. For example, 5 centimeters per second. Well, I'll check those that you said anyway.

Bought the Double Disc, Limited Edition version of 'The Girl That Leapt Through Time' today. Looking forward to some relaxed watching this afternoon ^__^.

For other releases in a similar vein, i'd reccomend all of the Shinkai series (Voices of a Distant Star, Place Promised in our Early Days, 5 CM per second) Even though they have supernatural elements... it's never too overwhelming.

I watched She: The Ultimate Weapon, and although the initial concept is fantasy, the themes and location is firmly in reality. Maybe one to check out.

As for a series, if you love music... check out Beck. All about a band, with some really nice characters and traditional art style.

I just finished watching this and thought it was amazing

much much love for this series.

as for similar series in present day, maybe some Miyazaki movies like Kiki's Delivery Service?

they've all got fantasy, but for the most part are set in the present.

This was bloody brilliant.
I can't actually think of anything productive to write about it yet though. State of awe?

@ Smoosh: I guess we can safely say she does end up with Chiaki sometime in the future. Although, by my calculations the age difference would be huge xD.

I would have liked to have seen in the final time leap, rather than give the device back straight away... she had played baseball with him and waited to go home with him on the bike. Then she could have finally said yes to his proposal, and then said her farewells after she explained their situation.

Does anyone know why the painting was so important to Chiaki? I felt it had something to do with her Aunt, who seemed completely unfazed by her time leaping...

I honestly think this is the perfect movie, endlessly entertaining with a really nice story. It perfectly combines moments of laughter with those of emotion and sadness and ones of overwhelming joy and even manages to make simple mundane parts fun and entertaining. For those who want to pick holes in the plot its not too hard, but then what film about time isn't? Its just a beatifully constructed, wonderfully animated and superbly scored film , I love everybit of it :D

I'd never really thought about that Nikku but now you mention it, it does seem odd and Chiaki never really gives and explanation
also the picture it self is very abstract, though I personally can't see any meaning in it

On another note Nikku is She: Ultimate Weapon worth it I watched the first episode and sort of enjoyed it but I wasn't sure?

P.S. this is an AMV i made for it enjoy! :)

I dunno, i bought the series purely because it was cheap at the time and i had heard rave reviews of the manga...
I usually like romance in anime, but here it's almost too solemn. It's great how such a simple fantasy element is incorporated into a reality setting, and i was highly satisfied with the ending. Yet, it's just not a top tier, 'AAA' title to me. If your in need of something new, i reccomend giving it a try.

Awesomoes i'll check it out.
From the sounds of it its similar to Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, which I thoroughly enjoyed for such a short series.

After looking into it, Auntie Witch is meant to be the girl from the orginal book, which the anime is conceptually based off. I'm presuming the painting has ties to the original story.

Still, they could've hinted this, rather than just making it look like a giant plot hole! xD
