I am watching this...
But the subs are coming out very slowly...
Impatient...
It doesn't follow the real Romeo and Juliet story entirely though...
It was nice in the beginning...
But then it got boring in the middle and the animation quality wasn't consistent..
But right now where the end of the story is nearing, it's getting a bit better ~~
Still, it has very nice OP and ED.. I like both of them very much~!!!
However, I've not really listen to the 2nd ED....

@Ray: Well, I've read the original version of Romeo and Juliet. So far, it's not going to be exactly the same as the original story (so it'll be just like Gankatsuou that was adapted from the novel 'The Count of Monte Cristo) but the theme (two lovers denying their parents rivalry just for the sake of love) remains the same. I'm not too sure about the ending though... I have a feeling that Romeo and Juliet will not die in that anime since alot of parts in the storyline in the anime is diverging away from the original story but still keeps the small fragments of it's original taste into the anime.
Yeah, I liked the OP and ED song. The OP song matches the story well and indeed it does touched my heart. Netherless I wasn't expecting a song that I'm fond of which my church usually sings during Easter is adapted to anime in a Jap version a few years later. The 1st ED song 'Cyclone' by 12012 is rather cool... much better than the 2nd ED song 'Goodbye Yesterday' by Mizrock
By the way, did I mention the fact that some of the characters in the anime are taken from other Shakespeare's works? Plus... I did find some storylines that matches 'As You Like It' by William Shakespeare.

yeah of course it wouldnt be exactly like Shakespears version,
they just took the main story line of it
and remade various parts of it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
the faces of the characters in episode 16 looked demented, the animation was horrible, for some reason...but that was the only episode

Hmmm... I guess you don't read much of Shakesphere works huh? ^^ I'll try to relate what I can recall with the help of something else. (Sorry... I've read this story 5 or so years ago ^^)
The play is set in a duchy in France, but most of the action takes place in a location called the 'Forest of Arden', which is most likely a toponym for a forest close to Shakespeare's home town of Stratford-upon-Avon. The Oxford Shakespeare edition rationalizes this geographical discrepancy by assuming that 'Arden' is an anglicisation of the forested Ardennes region of Belgium, and alters the spelling to reflect this. Other editions keep Shakespeare's 'Arden' spelling, since it can be argued that the pastoral mode depicts a fantastical world in which geographical details are irrelevant. The Arden edition of Shakespeare makes the suggestion that the name 'Arden' comes from a combination of the classical region of Arcadia and the biblical garden of Eden, as there is a strong interplay of classical and Christian belief systems and philosophies within the play. Furthermore, Shakespeare's mother's name was Mary Arden, and the name of the forest may also be a pun on that.
Frederick has usurped the Duchy and exiled his older brother, Duke Senior. The Duke's daughter Rosalind has been permitted to remain at court because she is the closest friend and cousin of Frederick's only child, Celia. Orlando, a young gentleman of the kingdom who has fallen in love at first sight of Rosalind, is forced to flee his home after being persecuted by his older brother, Oliver. Frederick becomes angry and banishes Rosalind from court. Celia and Rosalind decide to flee together accompanied by the jester Touchstone, with Rosalind disguised as a young man.
Rosalind, now disguised as Ganymede ("Jove's own page"), and Celia, now disguised as Aliena (Latin for "stranger"), arrive in the Arcadian Forest of Arden, where the exiled Duke now lives with some supporters, including "the melancholy Jaques", who is introduced to us weeping over the slaughter of a deer. "Ganymede" and "Aliena" do not immediately encounter the Duke and his companions, as they meet up with Corin, an impoverished tenant, and offer to buy his master's rude cottage.
Orlando and his servant Adam (a role possibly played by Shakespeare himself, though this story may be apocryphal [3]), meanwhile, find the Duke and his men and are soon living with them and posting simplistic love poems for Rosalind on the trees. Rosalind, also in love with Orlando, meets him as Ganymede and pretends to counsel him to cure him of being in love. Ganymede says he will take Rosalind's place and he and Orlando can act out their relationship.
Audrey by Philip Richard MorrisMeanwhile, the shepherdess Phoebe, with whom Silvius is in love, has fallen in love with Ganymede (actually Rosalind, of course), though "Ganymede" continually shows that "he" is not interested in Phoebe. The cynical Touchstone has also made an amorous advance on the dull-witted goatherd girl Audrey, and attempts to marry her before his plans are thwarted by the intrusive Jaques.
Finally, Silvius, Phoebe, Ganymede, and Orlando are brought together in an argument with each other over who will get whom. Ganymede says he will solve the problem, having Orlando promise to marry Rosalind, and Phoebe promise to marry Silvius if she cannot marry Ganymede. The next day, Ganymede reveals himself as Rosalind, and since women are not allowed to marry women, Phoebe ends up with Silvius.
Orlando sees Oliver in the forest and rescues him from a lioness, causing Oliver to repent of mistreating Orlando. Oliver meets Aliena (Celia's false identity) and falls in love with her, and they agree to marry. Orlando and Rosalind, Oliver and Celia, Silvius and Phoebe, and Touchstone and Audrey all are married in the final scene, after which they discover that Frederick has also repented his faults, deciding to restore his legitimate brother to the dukedom and adopt a religious life. Jaques, ever melancholy, declines their invitation to stay in the forest with them and also decides to adopt a religious life
... That's all about it those there were some part which I've taken from wikipedia (cause I'm pretty lazy to write the sypnosis at this hour and a simple summary will not do to tell you what was it all about and which part that can be found in that anime) . The part where a girl is dressed as a guy is somehow similiar to Juliet dressed as Odin.
There were some characters from "The Winter's Tale" by that same author: William Shakesphere. From all the characters that I've seen from the anime... there were some that were picked from other Shakesphere works and there were a few that were simply just made up... however... there's some element in the story line that had been taken from other Shakesphere works but still I'm impressed that they kept that Romeo and Juliet essense in it.
Netherless Aristotle once said that a great love story must end with a tragedy. This world loves happy endings and perhaps Romeo x Juliet might have a happy ending to get some... well... fans.

^^ That was a nice story...
A Shakespeare fan I assume, you are?
I'm basically not too much of a bookworm though I do not understand why my friends kept telling me that.... I've tried reading a few of japanese authors' translated works, one of them is Haruki Murakami's Kafka on The Shore... I do not gather much understanding from it, but it succeeded in making me read it all the way till the end~~
I missed good books, I really do...... Usually stood in the bookstore for hours to finish a book.... sigh...
If it is like what you said, then it is truly amazing that the producer manage this anime so well. Bravo to them....

Not really much of Shakesphere's fan actually. I just happen to read books of which the story interests me. To my point of view... Shakesphere works are my first thing that I should start with before I read other books. The first Shakesphere's work that I've read is Romeo and Juliet in a book that was printed on 1890 at Great Britain. It was the first novel that started my interest in reading other novels.

That is something to start off an interest with... Nevertheless, it's a good beginning. And it's Shakespeare... not sphere... too much science and maths? Lolz...

Sorry, I don't really mind the author's name but instead I place importance on how great his/her work is. Shakespeare not Shakesphere lol... I think I've been doing too much of maths during these past few days. Thanks for correcting me. ^^

Well yes, more importance placed over his works, but he is someone to be respected still... His prowess at literacy is something to be greatly admired... And you're welcome~

Well, back to the anime... I don't really mind much about the character designs though they looked simple to me. It's simple character designs and great story line makes me want to look forward to watching it no matter what comments that others might give for this anime. ^^

Romeo x Juliet is nearing its end... I wonder how it'll wraps up...
The animation is only average though, there's this episode with really bad drawings... the character's face was totally off-proportion... That leaves a bad impression for me... especially since the story was at a slow pace that time... Definitely did no favour...
Hope everything ends well with juliet and her beloved... hopefully both of them become the trees together... and let tybalt rules neo verona... hahaha...
From the OP, i was expecting a cool battle in between Romeo and Juliet... but no... that's very unlikely right now........

lol... I haven't watch the anime but instead it's previews. Yeah, I didn't see much of a battle between Romeo and Juliet except the part when he fought with Odin (actually is Juliet). I don't know about the last 4 episodes... maybe there a chance that there might be a batte between them or maybe... they might die at the ending... maybe...

i have a question...

Lolz...
Just read the summary of episode 23...
Ophelia turned scary + creepy....
Hmm.. I won't say much... won't spoil it for those who have not watch it...
My question was answered in this episode... Romeo and Juliet did fought together in their armours in the latest development.. But it wasn't for long as they ended up back together again... Though, they were ripped apart by Ophelia and Escalus' roots after that... the preview of the next episode seems sad... but who knows what will happen until we watch it for ourselves....
Actually, right now, I'm hoping for a tragic ending... It feels much more better that way for me... at least...

Actually, I'm not sure anymore if i still like this show...
It doesn't give me a feeling of contentment somehow... Therefore, not much feelings put into the show itself... and that sucks a bit... because it started out so well... the character design, art, OP, ED and all... but in the end...
Or maybe it's just me too outdated and stressed because of my upcoming exam.... sigh... >.<

Well... looks like it'll be a sad ending this time. Saw the last episode preview... and yeah...
Romeo and Juliet died in the end but in an unexpected way. Romeo was fatally wounded as Juliet sacrificed herself for her people. Well... at least their love still last in the end and that's the most inportant part in this genre. Romance that ended in tragedy. Sigh...
But there's something shown at the end... something like a secret ending...

well the ending was okay,
it was sad that romeo
died
and juliet
turned into a tree
but at least
in the end ever one was happy
and the whole place went down to the Earth
and stuff...
it was a pretty good ending if you ask me...
compared to a few other animes
