That was John Omaha... He is the President of the United States in Air Gear (before Obama was elected), but Omaha was almost certainly based on Obama.

I forget which chapter he first showed up in... Ah found it, chapter 206:

The onemanga translation was "Next Presidential Candidate"... I wasn't sure if that meant "President-Elect" or "Candidate for the President of the United States"...

I'm not questioning that the manga was written during the campaign.

I'm not questioning if the translation was "Next Presidential Candidate".

I was just unsure if they meant "President-Elect" because of the "next" or "Candidate for the President of the United States", because "Next Presidential Candidate" doesn't make sense to me... You're either a candidate or you're not, there's no "next candidate".

You have to differentiate from all the candidates out there. You have a lot of election going on at the same time. It could say "next" because he is endorsing Obama. I think this was written before the primary elections, too.

No, Roshi's right, it's a little weird saying "next presidential candidate"... Next president or presidential candidate would be more right... Allthough it could be like a show, and they just presented a presidential candidate, and then it would be "...And the next presidential candidate...". Whateva.

I don't care when it was written... Omaha is not Obama... he's just based on Obama.

We don't even know what year Air Gear takes place in, it could be the not-too-distant future.
