Step 1: Download mIRC
You can download it from: http://mirc.com/get.html

Step 2: Install and Open mIRC

Step 3: Open your options

You should get a window like this:
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/5779/screenshot011le7.jpg

Name: Put whatever you wish, I don't suggest your real name unless you wish for random people to know it.

Email Address: Same with name, I suggest using a fake email.

Nickname: What you'll be known as when chatting on mIRC.

Alternative: What you'll be known as if you get dc'd on your main nickname and you reconnect before your original nickname times out from the server.

Server: See step 4.

Step 4: Time to set up the server you'll connect to!

First of all start by clicking the "Servers" subcategory of "Connect" as seen here:
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/8881/screenshot010mx0.jpg

From there along with this picture it should be easy to figure out. :)

IRC Network: Open drop down and search for IRCHighway and select it, this will be the network you're connecting to.

IRC Server: This is how you actually connect to the network, there are many servers on a single network, so that if one server goes down people may still chat on the network through another server. We are going to set this to "IRCHighway: Random server." This will choose a random server on the network for us to connect to, this way if the server we are connected to goes offline all we have to do is reconnect and it will choose another random server, this time hopefully one thats online, but if not you just reconnect again until you get an online one. A lot easier than having to manually choose a new server if the server you're on goes down.

Now press ok to the mIRC options and save all you've done, no other changes are needed to be made to mIRC.

Step 5: Lets connect to #sora!

There are 2 methods to connect to #sora at this point.

1) First of all lets connect to the network! File>Connect

Once connected a window within mIRC, named irchighway, should appear with a bunch of technical connecting type info in it. (EG: connecting to server, welcome to server, there are so many users connect, so many channels, etc)

DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW.

Now from here we have 2 methods. I suggest the 2nd method, but I'll say both.

1st Method: type "/j #sora" in the irchighway window that had all the technical info. From here a new window will appear named #sora. You have now successfuly connected to the Sora Scans mIRC channel.

2nd Method(My suggested method): This method is longer, but it will set up your mIRC to auto-connect to the Sora Scans mIRC channel everytime you connect to the IRCHighway network.

Start by going to your favorites, Menu bar Favorites>Organize Favorites. You will get a window like this:
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6099/screenshot013wq1.jpg

Make sure the "Enable join on connect" is selected.

Click Add and you will get a window like this:
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9639/screenshot012ch8.jpg

Channel: #sora
Password: Leave it blank.
Description: Your choice.
Networks: Add>Select IRCHighway>Press ok
Options: Join on Connect: Select this.
Options: Minimize on join: Your choice.
Folder: Your choice

It should look like this:
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/65/screenshot015nd5.jpg

If it does, press ok and you have now added it to your favorites.

Now disconnect and reconnect and you should automatically join the Sora Scans mIRC channel.

Hope this guide helps everyone. :D If you have any more questions, ask them here.

each network has its own channels, each network has a completely different databases...its like choosing between two different websites :P

the network must be IRCHighway, server can be random, channel must be #sora
