Hey guys. Was just bored and messing around in photoshop wanting an AG avatar without having to gank one from an LJ community. Sooo I cropped and coloured a little something from chapter 93. Here for your viewing pleasure, and just in case the mood strikes you to ask me for any graphics or manga colouring work, since i have nothing better to do right now.

As I was hiding layers to work on the background, I realised it looked pretty with just my "extras' layer on, so I saved that version as well.

Aaand lastly, in case you want them, here's avatar/LJ-icon (100x100 pixel)-size versions of both.

Very nice work, Sakiru. I've colored some scans too though mostly just because I liked them and was bored, plus coloring in CS2 is kinda fun.
Here's Agito for starters from Vol.15 if I recall correctly;

Nice. My coloring skills is next to none. I have no sense of color so it looks like a mess when i color. :D This is coming from a newbie but i think you should add more of a gradient to the skin. The way you did your avatar is great for it kinda matches. But i don't think it'll work for these.

I didn't make the avatar though I've got plans to be making some for myself to use; However, I wanted one now and decided to use that one until I can make one.
Thanks for the advice on the skin tone, playsafe!

Lol. It wasn't much of an advice. :D I would love to know how you colored them because all my coloring attempts seem to end up in my recycle bin.

I tend to use Photoshop CS2 by Adobe to color with, depending on the image, I'll use the painbrush, gradients & textures to color the image. As for how, I use layers. I tend to make a new layer for each seperate thing I color; one layer for the skin, one for eyes, one for hair, etc.. :)
Then I use the "Save As.." to save it as a .psd to make it easier to change later if I need to, or to work on further later if I need to. To show off the finished product online, I use "Save for Web..." and it lets me save it without having to merge all the layers.
I think the above Akito image had 13 layers by the time I was finished with it actually.
EDIT I decided to screencap an example of what I'm talking about using the new image I'm currently coloring~

So far it's just the skin tones/shading and there's 5 layers if you count the background image.

I have one question. How did you do the clothes? :p

for people interested in coloring, beginning or learning more advanced techniques, i suggest searching through deviant art for good tutorials :p

Penguin has good suggestion there, but since you asked I'll answer it real quick with this, I did the clothes exactly how I did the skin and hair. It's just a matter of using the right tools, layers & filters. Experiment and see what works and what doesn't for you ^^
That's what I did. Good luck~!

i didn't know that ...
thanks for the info ^^
i nearly always am pissed when i need to merge/flatten the layers before i can save 'coz sometimes i end up saving the merged image and loose all the layer details ... >_<

I was lucky enough to get to study under a really awesome teacher for that kind of thing. I was taking some animation courses and he taught the class that was on coloring. He actually did the dragon in Escawflowne, really good at it. He has this really funny story about how he met Hayao Miyazaki. I was very excited to have him as a teacher. When I have the time I want to post some of the stuff I remember from the class up in the tutorial section. I haven't really done much of it in forever though, so my skillz are kinda lacking. He showed us a really great trick for coloring hair for manga characters.

Colouring is just a matter of learning how light works, when it comes down to it. XD Get your shadows in the first place and you've pretty much learned. Layer techniques and filters depend on the artist~
As for merging layers, the trick is to use a program where you can save a large file with the layers intact, as well as your workable .jpg, .gif, or .png. I use Adobe Photoshop 7 (still, guys), so I save a PSD and then I save in whatever other format I want. I also make sure to sacrifice small file size for high quality when I can. I only use lower quality formats or settings when I have file size limits (and i've found that for use on the web, a good .gif save will decrease your file size a lot without decreasing quality, if you use the correct program to save.)
My use of PSD files is what enabled me to bring you both the purple and white versions of Kaitou without recolouring anything. =D
