I want teams. like teams that will be designated to Yes or No. Each side will have to defend their positions. Makes it more interesting that way.

Why dont we have like a contest with trick points or something. For a specific debate. Get like 3 for each side with educated speeches or sorts. Then have someone who know the topic well enough to judge. We could have specific times to post. So whenever we decide on the order first affirmative, followed by second negative to rebut then do his speech, followed by 2 aff to rebut then do his speech, then 2 neg to rebut then his speech, then 3 aff to rebut do his speech, then 3 neg rebut does his speech. then first aff gets to rebut if he chooses followed by closing comments from 1st aff and neg. Thats how debates worked where i lived when we did 3 vs 3 though it was more often just 2 vs 2. I would also be happy to participate or judge as i was in debate club for 2 years then i judged for a year. But the actually contest thing would have to be approved by an admin. I think the reason for it would be to cultivate intellectual growth within the community.

im already againts it...making a race of the debutes is not such a good idea i think...
and if u already for againts it u will think that the judge is not right if he doesnt choose u. Also it depends highly on the language part too...not all of us has the english as motherlanguage.

i was just suggesting i could judge because i have experience judging debates. A debate as nothing to do with your ability to speak or write english. You just want to convey your points the best. I see lot of student when they debate the drag on and on and never make their point, something i am guilty of as well, but if you make it clear what your points are and back them up you win the debate it is as simple as that. The rebuttal part is when your opponent does their best to poke holes in your speech. Sometime they come off good sometimes they dont. This would just provide a chance for those who wish to participate in a structured debate off a loose collection of ideas and opinions. and to make things even easier rather then a judge let the community judge with a poll. If things go well once i get back to school ill try to organise this with anyone who is interested if your not. It doesnt matter it is kind of like the rpg. There are definately people on this forum who could careless but there are those who love this idea. The rpg game require the use of the english language similair to a speech. They both inspire creativity and intellectual growth. So once i have lets see where we can go with this.

I don't know about the whole winning or loosing aspect of it, of course it would be based on who makes the better argument and not on who's right or wrong...it could be fun.

exactly. I doesnt even matter if you argue for the side you believe. The point is just to make the best argument. In high school you would have to argue both side of the topic in multiple debates.
