He later on discovers the world of AT at the age of 14 but didn't really started riding it. He then escapes from the orphanage. A man that sells parts in a shop sees him one night watching stormriders, he was adapted and was introduced to more stormriders that are commonly buys from the show from this man. He worked for the man although he was usually scolded for being lazy and usually picking fights with the customers(stormriders) and get beaten up. The man pays for his studies and when he turned 16 he was given his first pair of ATs...

Smairu was flying with his ATs and was feeling so good when suddenly something hits him. He then realizes that he was sleeping and their teacher threw at him a chalk. "Sleeping again? But you seem more energetic when I catch you in those ATs of yours outside! Go outside then!!!" his teacher yells at him. He wears his ATs then goes out through the window, so fast, that he didn't understand what his teacher was yelling again. "What's his problem? I just got tired of practicing last night my new moves... Well, I'll just continue it then" Smairu talks to himself as he starts training again.
