i dont know what its like with media in pakistan but where i live i like some of the commercials. as much as it might sway me to buy something cause sometimes i become stupid and do. as much as i hate commercials sometimes banning them would cause a large economic hole in the retail industry.

Where i come from, if there was no TV commercials, non-cable TV would cease to exist.

Just think about it, where do those non-cable TV companies get their money, when it's not us who are giving them money? Commercials of course! They charge a large sum of money per second, more so if what they're airing gets the viewer's attention. This is also why channels on cable seem to have less commercials on.

Besides, not all commercials are spawns of evil. The whole point of it was to introduce a particular product to the world. Without commercials, some products might not be as well-known as it is now. Sure, some of them should just burniate themselves to death, but i've seen some good advertising.

Kudos to interesting commercials~

Without commericals shows would keep going and going and going without stopping, which is definitely a bad sign. <,<'' Why? BECAUSE you won't get to go PEE or grab a snack when you really want to watch your favorite showtime (yes, it has happened to me before; I had to wait for a commerical break). xD However, I'd understand if commerical breaks take more than ten minutes (it's not fun waiting); but yeah, it's not that bad, waiting for three minutes for a show to start and all, some commercials are really amusing, though.

peng i didnt mean it that way ofcourse there are some requirements for these things but the sad part is that people blindly accept whatever they are told ofcourse they help us to have knowledge abt the product but dont you think once u see sth soo many times u sorta get brain washed?

we should be that extrem. ad is da main income of tv channels. even due they get annoying after sometime, i dont mined all them.
i just think that the timeing should be less. most of da show have average of 7 minutes of ad.

The ad. is what makes the program funded. Without it, they would just vanish.

No, we definately need comemrcials. I mean thats where the stations get all their money from. If there were no commercials then the cost of cable/dish would be ridiculous. Its fine the way it is, commercials give time for breaks for stuff like food and bathroom :P

I don't watch television, so I don't care, but as far as banning it, no, absolutely not. How in the hell could you fund television without that support?

Sure the commercials suck, but did you ever think about the fact that they sell that air time so they can stay on the air?

it's either that or they have to sell things, and fi peopel don't buy what they sell the stations would go bankrupt, and there goes the neighbourhood, so no they shouldn't be banned.. no matter how annoying.

I'm an advertising major! This is what I study about!
I go to school to make advertisements. Not just on TV but on everything else. Advertisements are the life force of tv. O_o Without it, nothing else exists.

The reasons why there are so many advertisements on your favorite shows is that because it's your favorite, therefore there is a higher chance of you watching the advertisements we make, which makes our advertisements effective.

I agree that not all advertisements are crap. If you don't believe me, watch Advertisement Awards, they so rock.

Oh yeah, and if there are crappy advertisements, it's because that channel was too tight on their budget, so yeah, blame the channel. I think crappy advertisements should be banned.

That's all.

no, considering the fact that televisions was made solely to exploit advertisement and commercialism.

TV can exist without advertisements. The BBC in the UK works just fine without commercials. Quality programming. No breaks.

It's simply that they get their money differently. Everyone with a TV pays a small lisence fee for them, which means they get the money they need to make thier own quality programmes.

Commercial channels need advertisements, yes. But there are alternatives we could use to get rid of advertisements.

I'm not sure, maybe our payment goes through the government first and then to the BBC.
But in a nutshell, we pay the TV license and BBC lives on with it. I just found it's the world's largest broadcasting corporation too. Rock on.

"cuz how then will the selling of products be known to alot of people"

I don't understand your grammar. Products can be promoted in other ways apart from TV...
